Skjold means Shield in Danish, but it has nothing to do with the object. Skjold was the earliest recorded King of Denmark. The socalled Legend-Kings as described by Saxo.

Skjold is also a small city in Rogaland, Norway, the same city were the church burned down by Varg Vikernes was.
